    Hi All,

I am currently working on a project in which our client would like to replace their current inflatable fender for ARIB to foam filled type. I am working from scratch and there is a lot to be worked on from material selection, design, fabrication and up to commercial consideration for the design proposed.

Since I am a newbie in the boat construction field, I would very much appreciate for any recommendation, experience sharing and cost consideration for the project that you have done. Any input on the issues that you have experienced is also highly appreciated. Hope we can gain insight and gain valuable information and knowledge from the members of this group. Currently I am studying the material selection from this article,

Foam Core Materials for Boatbuilding - 3 https://www.boatdesign.net/articles/working-with-foam-cores/index.htm

It is very helpful but wonder, is it applicable for my current project? It would be great if suppliers from my region (APAC) could touch base with me here to explore the possibility of collaboration or business with us. Thank you and I hope you can help me with the subject. Cheers!

Hi Gonzo, thank you for the reply. The main purpose for my study is indeed to develop the capability to fabricate the fender for my company's shipyard. Previously we have already bought and outsource the scope but now we would like to explore the option to fabricate on our own. So it would be great if you can share some tips or any experience as well. Cheers!

To fabricate them you will have to build at least a small factory to make the extrusions. To design the collars, the plan should start by the application and dimensions of the boat. For example, the density and toughness of a collar for a 3 meter boat will not work on a 12 meter boat.
